Sitar Music in the Courtyard on Friday Nights

Raga means "that which colors the mind".  Starting this Friday, April, 17, sitarist Chris Corsbie will host a series of eclectic musical evenings in the garden at Casa de Luz.  The colors of the spring's passion, the sounds of breeezes in the bamboo, the sitar, the flute, the voices, the soft drums,  all  express the tranquility and depth of heart we share here in this garden.  Please come and share.  Musical samples available at myspace.com/chriscorsbie.  You can contact Chris at 512-917-8121 or ccorsbie@hotmail.com.

Monthly Birthday Nights at Casa de Luz

All of us at Casa de Luz enjoyed seeing the wonderful celebration for Wayo's birthday last month, and we've decided to hold a monthly Birthday Night.  Please join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month as everyone in attendance will share in celebrating the day of your birth!   Send Jinji your birthday for listing in the newsletter or email her at ohjinjio@mac.com to let her know if you will be joining us for Birthday Night.

Join Us For A Celebration of Casa de Luz's 18th Birthday!

On Tuesday January 27th, Casa de Luz will be celebrating its 18th year of bringing health and community to Austinites.  We invite you to a festive evening in the Dining Room to celebrate with us as we express gratitude to you for our 18th Birthday!  Please join us from 6:00 - 8:30 pm for dinner and a retrospective slide show with over 1000 slides from the last 18 years of Casa de Luz!

Casa de Luz Community Night & Request for Movie Suggestions

Community Night: 2nd Monday of Each Month

Casa de Luz Community Nights will take place on the second Monday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the Cielo Room or Auditorium.

In tune with the idea of living a "great life," Casa de Luz is a philosophy and way of life--not simply nutrition.  We envision these evenings as Village Gatherings, opportunities for our community to gather in a setting other than the Dining Room, participating in a variety of activities other than sharing meals together.

Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) Presentation, Monday November 3, 7-9pm

The November 2008 meeting of the Japonica Salon, the monthly series of presentations on Japanese culture produced by the local Japan America Society, will feature a presentation on shakuhachi music, which means “bamboo flute.”

Local shakuhachi musician David Duncavage has many years of experience performing and teach shakuhachi.  In addition to playing shakuhachi music for us, he will talk to us about how the flutes are made, musical notation, and the different kinds of shakuhachi music.

Friday Evening Sitar Concert with El Dia de los Muertos Altar

Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, is a very special and sacred custom, very similar to All Saints Day. Nov. 1.  Chris Corsbie and guests will perform Indian music in the garden at Casa de Luz from 6:30 until 9:00 pm.  All are invited to enjoy Indian night dinner from the Dining Room, congregate in the garden and listen to sitar music on the deck.
