Dining at Casa

Casa de Luz is 100% vegan and organic with the occasional non-organic ingredient marked on the menu. Our dining room, philosophy, and food create a comfortable and peaceful ambience. Hot kukicha tea and cold lemongrass tea are always complimentary.

Breakfast

Breakfast at Casa de Luz is a buffet-style organic vegan meal. At only $6.47, it is a tremendous value for the quality and quantity of food that will energize you for many hours. Each morning, we will be here serving hand-made tortillas, beans, porridge, greens (with sauce), vegetables, soup, and warm kukicha tea. Truly a serene way to start the day.

Lunch & Dinner

Lunch & Dinner at Casa de Luz consist of soup, a side salad, and an entrée plate with grains, greens, veggies, beans, and pickled vegetables. Each meal is prepared with fresh organic produce and the inspiration to create a healing gift for you to enjoy.

Austin Chronicle calls us "an Oasis in the middle of a busy city" and we can't help but agree. Please check our daily menu updates, available 30 minutes to an hour before each meal.

For your health... our grains are soaked overnight, we avoid foods containing gluten, no sugar or artificial ingredients are added, we use genuine whole foods, campus-grown herbs (when we can), sprouts grown in-house, prepare meals accordingly with the seasons, triple filter our water to remove fluoride, and use natural cleaning products.

Condiments

We provide house-made gomashio, tamari of the highest quality, and nori flakes. What is gomashio, you ask? Sesame seeds soaked in water then roasted to a golden brown and slightly crushed. Tamari is wheat-free soy sauce. Nori flakes are dried flakes of nori seaweed. We also offer stevia powder for sweetening tea. Enjoy these healthful condiments!

Desserts

Casa de Luz makes organic vegan desserts affordable for everyone at only $2.78 each. We stock our dessert case with puddings, kantens, pies, fruit tarts, nut tarts, fruit crunches, and surprisingly creative and delicious confections you'd never believe are made with non-processed foods. For desserts to-go, we offer corn-based containers for fifty cents. These containers are biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable!

Special Thanksgiving Buffet

Thank you for joining us on Thanksgiving last year. Here is a note from one of our satisfied guests:

I wanted to say thanks so much for the Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. I was spending the holiday alone and had a wonderful day, thanks in part to the food and people I met at while eating at Casa. I have to say that it was the most delicious holiday meal I have ever had. There was such a great variety of foods and they were all good. That creamed corn was outstanding. I got really stuffed but know that I was filling my body with all healthy things. Also, the community aspect really made my day perfect.

Could you do it again on Christmas?

Yes! Our Holiday Gala was held on Sunday December 20th. Keep up with our special meals by subscribing to our newsletter.

FAQ

Does Casa filter its water?

Yes! Casa de Luz has the most comprehensive water filtering process of any dining establishment in Austin. Beyond triple filtering, we go so far as to have a specific $600/year filter just to remove fluoride from the city water. Then, the water passes through three vortex chambers for revitalization. This is the water with which we cook and the water we use to make our teas.

Do you offer meals to-go?

Yes. We'd love it if you'd eat in our dining room, but we know that is not always possible. For the regular $11.09 meal price, we offer a plate-and-a-half of today's meal plus salad and soup (16oz). Bring your own container, please.

Can I bring my token to the kitchen for my plate or do I need to wait for someone to come to me?

If you would like your plate right away, it is okay to bring your token to the kitchen instead of waiting at a table. Please be conscious of the other patrons who may be waiting for their first plate, though.
