Volunteer opportunities at Casa de Luz
Working in our kitchen is a way to experience presence of mind while washing and chopping organic vegetables. Lunch volunteer shift is 8 - 11am. Dinner 3 - 5:30pm. Eat with the staff right afterwards.
When volunteering, we require that you wear closed-toe shoes, a shirt which covers the shoulders, and a head cover like a hat or bandana.
Please visit us between meals to find out more about volunteering and to sign up!
Lee Duan
Lee Duan is on a two year vacation. He is a man of few words and a permeating smile. Lee arrives at Casa de Luz early in the morning to chop vegetables and help prepare the lunch meal. He has been volunteering 4 or 5 times a week for months. We offered him a position but he protests with a smile and says, "I am on vacation."
Lee joined us at our breakfast discussion one day and said that in ancient China, people did not separate their work from the rest of their lives. Joy is in all that we do. Lee finds joy in volunteering at Casa de Luz. He told us that Casa's food and the preparation is simple. It is his belief that simple food, god-made food, makes us healthy. Whole food leads to whole thinking. In his view eating industrialized food is opposite of simplicity.
