I’ve been freelancing for about two years now, mostly doing blog content and newsletters. While I love the flexibility, I’m struggling to see how I can turn this into something more stable long-term. I keep hearing about “building a sustainable remote writing career” but honestly, what does that even look like? Is it about having long-term clients, or do I need to niche down more? Curious what’s worked for others here.

Hey, I’ve been there. Honestly, for me, sustainability came down to two things: consistency and diversification. Early on, I put all my eggs in the freelance basket—Upwork, cold pitching, etc.—but the feast-or-famine cycles nearly burned me out. Eventually, I started applying to part-time and full-time remote writing jobs through platforms like Remote Writing Jobs. It helped me get steady income from a few regular clients while still leaving time to take on creative projects. Also, picking a niche (online jobs) made it way easier to attract the right work. Once I had even a couple of stable gigs, things snowballed naturally. It’s not all perfect—some months are still weird—but it’s way more manageable now.
